“Young, Gifted and Black” Brings Landmark Art Collection to the Lowe, Starting October 23

One of the most celebrated traveling exhibitions of contemporary art arrives in Coral Gables this month: “Young, Gifted, and Black: The Lumpkin-Boccuzzi Family Collection of Contemporary Art” opens at the Lowe Art Museum on Friday, October 23, 2026, and will be on view through April 24, 2027.

Drawn from the renowned private collection of Bernard I. Lumpkin and Carmine D. Boccuzzi and co-curated by Antwaun Sargent and Matt Wycoff, the exhibition showcases works by two generations of Black artists — about 50 artists in total — exploring identity, lineage, abstraction and joy in every medium.

The lineup reads like a who’s who of contemporary art: Derrick Adams, Jordan Casteel, Bethany Collins, Rashid Johnson, Kerry James Marshall, Kara Walker, and many more.

Celebrate the opening at the public opening reception on Thursday, October 22, from 7 to 9 p.m. (members’ preview 6–7 p.m.). The Lowe Art Museum is at 1301 Stanford Drive on the University of Miami campus in Coral Gables — free and open to all.

A luminous season of art, community and pride for Miami’s museum scene.
