Vizcaya Museum and Gardens has a new reason to slow down and look around. Opening November 7, 2026, “Welcome to Wonder” is a site-responsive photographic installation by Miami-based artist Josh Aronson, commissioned through Vizcaya’s Contemporary Arts Program, that turns the estate’s Hammock Paths and the Metrorail Overpass Ramp into an intimate journey through portraiture, nature and place.
Walking the path that connects South Miami Avenue to Vizcaya’s Entrance Piazza — through a rare Rockland Hammock forest — visitors will encounter contemplative photographs of nature and of people experiencing nature, creating unexpected moments of pause and discovery. The work explores themes of seeing and being seen, concealment and revelation, belonging and identity. “The installation becomes both an artwork and an invitation: to enter Vizcaya through a state of wonder, openness and discovery,” said Aronson.
The opening reception takes place on Saturday, November 7, 2026, at 10:30 AM in the Superintendent’s Garden at Vizcaya Village, with remarks from the curator and artist at 11:00 AM. And here’s the best part: the installation can be experienced during museum hours, 9:30 AM to 4:30 PM, without an admission ticket, since it sits in public-access areas. It remains on view through May 25, 2027.
Aronson, a Miami-based photographer, made history in 2024 as the first artist to win both the People’s Choice Award and the Juror’s Prize for No Vacancy, the City of Miami Beach’s public art commission. His work has appeared in The New York Times, The Guardian and Italian Vogue.
