Right now, Miami is in full celebration mode: Hispanic Heritage Month runs from September 15 through October 15, honoring the people, neighborhoods and stories that give Greater Miami and Miami Beach its unmistakable character.
No neighborhood embodies the celebration like Little Havana, the cultural epicenter where Calle Ocho bustles with traditional Latin ventanitas, cigar shops, art galleries, restaurants and bars. Historic venues like the Ball & Chain keep the music playing, and family-run institutions such as El Rey de las Fritas carry recipes and stories across generations.
This year’s celebration has an extra-special reason to shine: the City of Hialeah — one of the most Hispanic cities in the nation, with a population over 94% Hispanic and a vibrant Cuban community at its core — is marking its 100-year anniversary. A century of heritage, celebrated in style.
The mosaic keeps growing across the destination: the City of Doral is home to the largest concentration of Venezuelans in the United States, while Kendall and West Miami-Dade reflect Colombian and Nicaraguan roots, and neighborhoods from Little Haiti to Homestead add their own flavors.
“Hispanic Heritage Month celebrates the traditions, flavors, music and stories that give Greater Miami and Miami Beach its unmistakable character,” said David Whitaker, president and CEO of the Greater Miami Convention & Visitors Bureau. “This year, as Hialeah marks 100 years, we honor a century of contributions that helped shape the destination we love.”
