Florida Grand Opera Opens Its 26-27 Season with Lucia di Lammermoor

Miami’s beloved Florida Grand Opera is kicking off its 26–27 season with a bang — and a mad scene! The company opens its new season, themed “Fire · Guitar · Legend,” with Gaetano Donizetti’s beloved bel canto masterpiece Lucia di Lammermoor, running November 14–17 at the Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts.

Lucia di Lammermoor is one of the most famous operas ever written, the sweeping tale of love, family loyalty, and heartbreak set against the misty moors of Scotland. It’s best known for Lucia’s dazzling “mad scene,” a showcase of vocal fireworks that has thrilled audiences for nearly two centuries — and soprano Marnie Breckenridge stars in the title role, joined by tenor Arturo Chacón-Cruz as her beloved Edgardo.

Opening the season with such a vocal tour de force sets a thrilling tone for what’s ahead: the 26–27 season also includes Don Giovanni (January 30–February 20), Nabucco (April 17–20), and the Miami International Festival of the Voice. Whether you’re a lifelong opera fan or trying it for the first time, opening night season is the perfect excuse to dress up and let world-class voices wash over you.
