Miami in December 2026: Weather, Events & Things to Do

December is Miami’s golden month. While the rest of the country bundles up, South Florida serves up warm sunshine, cool breezy evenings and the most exciting cultural calendar of the year — headlined by the world’s most glamorous art fair. Here is your complete guide to visiting Miami in December 2026.

The weather

December is one of Miami’s driest and most pleasant months. Expect daytime highs around 76°F (24°C) and nighttime lows near 60°F (16°C), with low humidity and plenty of blue skies. The ocean stays swimmable at about 73°F (23°C) — yes, you can swim on Christmas Day. Pack sunscreen, light layers for the evening breeze and one light jacket for air-conditioned venues.

Art Basel & Miami Art Week (Nov 30 – Dec 6)

The biggest week in Miami’s cultural calendar. Art Basel Miami Beach (Dec 4–6 at the Miami Beach Convention Center) brings the world’s top galleries, while Miami Art Week fills the city with satellite fairs, outdoor installations, Wynwood gallery nights and pop-up exhibitions across Miami Beach and the Design District. Book hotels early — this week sells out and prices soar.

Holiday lights & traditions

Miami does Christmas with a tropical twist. Look for Zoo Lights at Zoo Miami, the NightGarden light experience and the beloved Winterfest Boat Parade — decorated boats gliding past the Intracoastal — all lighting up the season on select December nights. Many neighborhoods, from Coral Gables to Little Havana, dress their streets in lights.

On stage: The Nutcracker & more

Miami City Ballet’s George Balanchine’s The Nutcracker returns to the Adrienne Arsht Center (Dec 11–27), the classic holiday ballet for all ages. Families can also enjoy Nutcracker Magic, the company’s festive fundraising celebration (Dec 10), and the ballet Snow White & the Seven Dwarfs at the Fillmore Miami Beach (Dec 22).

Things to do between events

December’s dry season is the best time to visit the Everglades — wildlife viewing peaks when water levels drop. Stroll the Art Deco Historic District in perfect walking weather, take a Biscayne Bay cruise, explore Vizcaya’s gardens, and spend at least one afternoon on the sand. End the month with New Year’s Eve parties and fireworks over the bay.

Sunshine, art and celebration — December in Miami is the trip you’ll be talking about all year.
