Sarah Zapata’s Monumental Textile Worlds Take Over The Bass in Miami Beach

Few things in Miami this season are as immersive as walking into Sarah Zapata’s worlds. “Sarah Zapata: Against a State of Malevolence,” on view at The Bass through February 28, 2027, gathers the Peruvian-American artist’s monumental textile installations — environments you don’t just look at, but move through.

Zapata (b. 1988, Corpus Christi, Texas) draws from weaving traditions, architecture, queer identity, and her Peruvian heritage, transforming fiber into emotional objects that are at once tactile, monumental, and symbolic. Visitors first encounter “Blue in the Hands of Prospect” (2025), a contemplative environment of layered blue textiles, handwoven surfaces, and striped sculptural forms — a space of color and texture that slows time down.

It’s a show that rewards repeat visits and curious kids alike: through weaving, tufting, and sewing, Zapata turns craft traditions into large-scale, deeply personal art. Don’t miss it at The Bass in Collins Park, Miami Beach.
