The curtain rises on a new era for Miami City Ballet. The company opens its 2026/27 season — the inaugural season of artistic director Gonzalo Garcia — with “American Rhythms,” a sparkling mixed bill at the Adrienne Arsht Center’s Ziff Ballet Opera House on October 16, 17, and 18, 2026.
The program weaves together classical brilliance, jazzy elegance, and the thrill of the brand new. It begins with George Balanchine’s Allegro Brillante, a kinetic burst of technical precision set to Tchaikovsky. Then comes the company premiere of Jerome Robbins’ N.Y. Export: Opus Jazz, which brings the spirit and swagger of American jazz to the stage with new costumes designed by Zac Posen for GapStudio.
The evening closes with a true world premiere: a new work by Miami-born, Tony Award-winning choreographer and former MCB principal dancer Patricia Delgado, set to original music by fellow Miami native and award-winning artist Emily Estefan. Two hometown talents, one stage — a celebration of Miami’s own creative energy.
Performances are Friday, October 16 at 7:30 PM, Saturday, October 17 at 7:30 PM, and Sunday, October 18 at 1:00 PM. The Arsht Center is at 1300 Biscayne Blvd in downtown Miami, easy to reach by Metromover and Brightline, with great dinner options nearby in the Arts & Entertainment District.
Whether it’s your first ballet or your fiftieth, this is a perfect night to fall in love with dance. Tickets are on sale now through Miami City Ballet and the Arsht Center.
Note: Miami City Ballet also brings “American Rhythms” to the Broward Center on October 24 and 25 — a great excuse for Broward neighbors to catch the same program closer to home.
