Some cities have history. Miami Beach has style. The Miami Design Preservation League’s Official Art Deco Walking Tour runs daily — typically departing at 10:30 a.m., except on holidays — offering a two-hour guided journey through the Miami Beach Architectural Historic District, home to more than 800 preserved buildings from the 1920s to 1940s.
Led by knowledgeable volunteer guides credentialed through the MDPL Tour Guide Academy, the tour goes beyond the streetscape: you’ll step inside the lobbies of legendary hotels and landmark spaces, and trace three architectural languages — the sweeping curves and pastel façades of Art Deco, the arched loggias of Mediterranean Revival, and the space-age futurism of Miami Modern (MiMo). Headsets are provided, and the ticket includes admission to the Art Deco Museum and Gift Shop.
Tours meet at the Art Deco Welcome Center, 1001 Ocean Drive. MDPL members enjoy the tour free with no RSVP required, and all proceeds support the nonprofit’s mission to preserve, protect, and promote the district. Groups are limited, so booking ahead through mdpl.org is recommended. Just bring curiosity and a good pair of walking shoes.
