Miami City Ballet opens its 2026–27 season — the first under new artistic director Gonzalo Garcia — with American Rhythms, a sparkling mixed bill at the Adrienne Arsht Center from October 16 through 18, 2026. The program weaves together classical brilliance, jazzy elegance, and a brand-new world premiere.
The evening opens with George Balanchine’s Allegro Brillante, a kinetic burst of neoclassical precision set to Tchaikovsky. It continues with the company premiere of Jerome Robbins’ N.Y. Export: Opus Jazz, which infuses the improvisational spirit of American jazz into classical ballet vocabulary. The program closes with a world premiere by Tony Award winner Patricia Delgado — the Miami native and former MCB principal dancer also behind the choreography of Broadway’s Buena Vista Social Club.
It’s a statement opening for Garcia’s inaugural season, pairing repertory cornerstones with new creation and honoring the company’s Miami roots. The program also travels to Fort Lauderdale’s Au-Rene Theater at the Broward Center on October 24 and 25 for South Florida audiences north of the county line.
