Frost Science Launches Animation Tech Lab Club for Kids Ages 7–12

Young animators, this one’s for you! The Phillip and Patricia Frost Museum of Science is launching its Fall Tech Lab Club: Animation, a semester-long learning adventure for children ages 7 to 12 — inspired by The Science Behind Pixar exhibition.

Across four Sunday sessions — October 4, October 11, November 8 and November 15 — club members will explore the technology behind animated films, from modeling and animation to lighting and rendering. Through creative projects and digital tools, kids will discover how art, computer science and engineering come together to bring characters and stories to life.

The program builds session by session: days one and two dive into 3D animation (modeling, rigging, lighting, rendering), while days three and four guide each child through creating their very own 2D animation project — which they will proudly present inside the Frost Planetarium. Frost Science laptops are provided for all activities.

Each session runs from 9:30 a.m. drop-off through 2 p.m., including morning and afternoon activities, museum time and lunch. Because the program is scaffolded, participants register for the full series (day passes are not offered).

Spaces are limited and a minimum enrollment is required, so families should register soon through the Frost Science website. It’s the perfect blend of creativity and STEM — right in the heart of downtown Miami at 1101 Biscayne Blvd.
