The Phillip and Patricia Frost Museum of Science is bringing a touch of Pixar magic to downtown Miami. The Science Behind Pixar opens on October 10, 2026 and runs through April 11, 2027 in the Hsiao Family Special Exhibition Gallery on the museum’s first floor, with a members-only preview on October 9. The exhibition is included with general museum admission.
Developed by the Museum of Science, Boston in collaboration with Pixar Animation Studios, the 13,000-square-foot interactive exhibition reveals how science, technology, engineering, art, and math power the studio’s beloved films. Visitors step into the roles of Pixar filmmakers across eight sections of the production pipeline: modeling, rigging, surfaces, sets and cameras, animation, simulation, lighting, and rendering.
Expect to encounter familiar faces along the way, including Buzz Lightyear, Dory, Mike and Sulley, Edna Mode, and WALL-E. Hands-on stations let guests build digital sculptures, give characters a virtual skeleton so they can move, and experiment with the virtual lighting techniques behind the animated water in Finding Nemo. It’s a natural fit for families, and a fun way to sneak real STEM learning into a day at the museum.
